Wayne Hulit served in DSC from 1969 to 1970 working in
the communications center as a tech controller. As you see in
the pictures above he was involved with building our Chapel. The
second picture was when he received an ARCOM for having built it. The
third picture as he described it was after a game of tackle
volleyball. Which as I recall was quite a popular local sport.
And the last picture is Wayne today.
I also want to personally thank Wayne for doing a
little historical research for us. This is what he wrote to verbatim.
"I'm still involved with the military and I've
done a little historical research myself on the name changes. Today,
the military, no doubt as then, keeps reorganizing. After Tet in 68,
Westmorland was expanding the Area of Responsibility (AOR) up to the
north and the 12th signal group was formed to collect all the little
signal companies sprinkled all over the place. The Danang Signal
Battalion, located downtown, was the big brother of DSC which was put
inside the 80th support group compound to provide communications
servcies or the mortuary, hospital, and some logistics depots within
that perimeter. Eventually, the DSC under Danang Signal Batallion
under 12th Signal Group under 1st Signal Brigade was put under the
control of the Strategic Communications Command (STRATCOM). To this
day, the STRATCOM still exists and manages all the Department of
Defense's networks."
Thanks Wayne, have a nice cold FANTA ROOT BEER on
me!
